Development Studies: Gender Perspectives
This course aims to introduce participants to key debates about women, gender and development from historical perspectives. The course will introduce participants to why and how gender matters while interrogating the field of development. It seeks to trace the historical journey of introduction of women and gender in to the field of Development and how both have reworked each other. The focus will be on the issues of production and reproduction, questions of identity assertion, rights and citizenship in relation to the state, women’s resistance and activism in India. There will be critical analysis of the spheres of labour, health, law and politics and education from the gender perspective.
