Qualitative Research Methods

This course will provide an introduction to the principles and practice of qualitative research. Students will gain an overview on how to design, conduct qualitative research and analyse qualitative data. Course will include theoretical paradigms,working within a theoretical framework, study design (including mixed methods ), recruitment of participants, following the right process of data collection, analysis, and presentation of findings for publication. In this course we  focus on building skills in three methods of qualitative data collection commonly used in public health research, interviews, focus group discussion, and observation. At the end the course will touch upon commonly used qualitative data analysis techniques.  The course balances lectures with skill-building participatory sessions focusing on core skills such as preparing theoretical framework, building research instruments, conducting an interview, moderating a group discussion, handling data collected using different methods).
